Music: Mindless Self Indulgence

Wednesday, May 7

Taking its cue from bands like Lords of Acid and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Mindless Self Indulgence performs industrial, electro-shock rock that's dark and twisted, but far from earnest. The coed NYC-based foursome is fronted by Jimmy Urine (real name: James Euringer), whose falsetto vocals are set against frenetic, synthified beats and heavy-metal-flavored licks, the absurd and oftentimes outrageously sexual lyrics touching upon everything from masturbation to homophobia to "Cocaine and Toupees." MSI have been doing their thing for more than a decade and are currently touring in support of their fifth studio album, If, released by The End Records on April 29. The tour bus stops in St. Petersburg this Wednesday; expect a vigorous live show marked by all manner of Urine-fueled stage antics. Canadian industrialites The Birthday Massacre provide support. Wed., May 7, Jannus Landing, 16 Second St. N., St. Petersburg, $20, 727-896-2276, jannuslandingconcerts.com.
