Anthology: 1965-1972

Released in '92, this is the best Rascals comp out there. Felix Cavaliere and company, the early torch-bearers of blue-eyed soul, are best remembered by their singles, and they're all here on this two-disc, 44-song collection: the early revved-up rockers ("Good Lovin'," "You Better Run") and R&B covers ("Mustang Sally," "In the Midnight Hour"), and on to more upscale outings like luminescent "A Girl Like You," "Groovin'" and "A Beautiful Morning." The Rascals got a little arty in the late '60s/early '70s, but there are some hidden gems on Disc 2 — like the gospel-flavored "Ray of Hope" and slinky "Nubia."
