It ain't easy writing green

CL congratulates the winners of our 2016 Writing Contest.

Our annual Fiction Issue is out this week; per usual, it recognizes and celebrates both Readers' and Judge's Picks, this year in both short fiction and poetry. We received more than 100 entries on this year's inspirational theme of "Green" (with a few that entertainingly defied our recommendation against leprechauns). CL Editor David Warner chose the Top 10 stories and sent them on to Fiction Judge Sheree L. Greer; poetry judge Helen Pruitt Wallace read all of the poems that were entered and chose her own Top 10. From that point on it was up to readers and judges to make their top picks. It was, by all accounts, a very tough choice to make — a testament to the strength of the entries and the field of talent in the area. As always, we were stoked about and grateful for the excitement the contest generates every year.

Check out the winning pieces of fiction and poetry, along with some notes from our judges that include some of their other favorites that made the process so tough by being so good.
