Tampa Bay live music Wednesday with Las Nubes, Tom Russell and more

Florida Orchestra's free happy hour concert is at Armature Works, too.

Tom Russell Craftsman House closed out 2018 by booking a handful of buzzing young songwriters, and the quirky St. Petersburg venue is sort of picking up where it left off by bringing in a giant of American songwriting, Tom Russell, whom Rolling Stone once called “the greatest living folk-country songwriter.” That’s a lot of pressure, but Russell rolls on, seemingly unphased, on a forthcoming album (October in the Railroad Earth, due March 15 via Proper Records). Advance tickets are recommended, and you can grab those by calling 727-323-2787. (Craftsman House, St. Petersburg) INFO

Florida Orchestra Happy Hour Series: American Jazz It used to cost just over $30 to get into Florida Orchestra’s happy hour concert series. The free drinks and GA seating at the Straz Center made the price tag worth it, but in its third season the series is totally bowing down to the people by making the already casual show completely free to attend. After staging a chilly tango-based affair in November, TFO returns to Armature Works for a mid-week concert where Jeff Tyzik conducts works from great American composers like George Gershwin and Scott Joplin. Las Nubes w/Liquid Pennies/Flux Hymns Lo-fi dream pop band Las Nubes is almost back home after a recent tour, and members will make one last stop in St. Petersburg before reaching their final destination of Miami. Fans of ‘90s indie-rock should definitely brush up with a 2017 compilation, Some Things To Let Go, before heading out to this free late-night show. (The Bends, St. Petersburg) INFO
