After Temple Terrace’s Saigon Bay Vietnamese Restaurant burned to the ground last weekend during protests over the killing of George Floyd, the public is now reaching out to help the owners.
A GoFundMe, which was started by Anna Jensen and Bryan Huynh on behalf of owners Thanh Son and Savy Lam, has been up for just over a day and has already raised raised nearly $45,000.
“Me and my family are very grateful for the two groups taking the first steps to helping Saigon Bay recover from this unfortunate situation,” said the owner’s son Ricky in the GoFundMe post. “Furthermore, we are in awe that the community as a whole all came together to help support my family and Saigon Bay. Whether it be regulars, newcomers, students, organizations, etc., we are just flabbergasted at the amount of love and assistance given to us by you all.”
The restaurant burned to the ground on Saturday, after a nearby Champs Sports on East Fowler was destroyed. By early Sunday, at least 40 businesses in the area were damaged.
