List Brief

Kathleen Finnerty expresses her passion for the natural world via her photography. Her portfolio is filled with 30 years of work, more than 2,000 images of Florida, from stunning, Clearwater Beach sunsets, to scenic snapshots of the Hillsborough River, to extreme close-ups of burrowing owls, water lilies and other native species.

Donna Bollenbach also specializes in photography of the state's natural beauty. Bollenbach's technique — to walk quietly, look closely and stay longer — rewards her with a great number of intimate, captivating images of Florida fauna, like turtles marching in formation and a baby alligator nosing out of its shell.

Both photographers share a common interest: to generate a better understanding and appreciation of Florida's natural lands and diverse wildlife, and to encourage the protection of Florida's natural spaces for future generations. Finnerty and Bollenback are featured in Natural Florida: Perceptions and Perspectives, the latest exhibition at Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center. Meet them and enjoy refreshments at the opening reception, which takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Sat., June 3.

Natural Florida is on display June 3-Aug. 6, Wed.-Sun., 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 1800 Weedon Drive N.E., St. Petersburg, free admission, 727-453-6500, www.weedonislandcenter.org.
