In the wake of Wednesday’s record-breaking rainfall, the entire Tampa Bay area is now under a flood watch till Friday evening, says the National Weather Service.

Yesterday’s rain total reached a massive 2.59 inches at Tampa International Airport, breaking the 2.11 inch record from 2013. The airport has already reported 4.6 inches of rain in August, surpassing the monthly average of 3.7 inches. Overall, this has been an epically soggy year in Tampa Bay. So far in 2019, Tampa International has already blasted through 2018’s total rainfall numbers of 29.7 inches, with 41.5 inches with 5 months remaining in 2019.

Showers are expected to continue today and tomorrow, with a 70 percent chance of rain on Thursday, and an 80 percent chance of rain on Friday, says the NWS.

Flood-prone areas in Tampa Bay have already been hit especially hard, and should continue to monitor weekend forecast updates.
