It's getting a little salty here toward the end.

Tampa mayoral candidate David Straz created a new website, thetruthaboutjane.com.

In his most recent campaign ad, from April 5, “The truth about Jane,” Straz said that Castor is lying about reducing the crime rate by 70 percent.

“She chose to bundle crimes to make the numbers spin in her favor so she could look good,” he said in the ad. “That disingenuous style of management gives our community a false sense of security and puts officers, safety in danger.”

The website reads “Jane Castor is the reason you have red light cameras in Tampa,” and “She is double dipping with taxpayers monies (sic).”

“All of this is true, proven by facts,” he says in the video. “I’m sorry if the facts reflect negatively on you, Jane.”

While Straz is creating videos about Castor, she’s been racking up endorsements.

U.S. Rep Kathy Castor (D-FL) endorsed former Tampa police chief and current mayoral candidate Jane Castor at a press conference outside of the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library in Downtown Tampa April 5.

"We're about to elect the next leader of this great city, a city where both of us grew up in North Tampa. What folks are looking for in a mayor are three things: trust, honesty, and vision. Jane Castor has the trust of this community, has always been an honest leader, and I trust her vision for the future. Today, I am very proud to endorse my friend, Jane Castor, for mayor of the city of Tampa," said Kathy Castor.

Jane Castor racked up the endorsements of three former Tampa mayors — Dick Greco, Pam Iorio, and Bob Martinez — April 3. She got endorsed by current mayor Bob Buckhorn last month.

When is the last time her opponent got an endorsement? It’s been a while.

Straz and Castor sat down for a televised debate for the first time since they became the two run-off candidates.

The debate, moderated by Florida This Week host Rob Lorei on WEDU-Ch. 3, covered the usual topics — transportation, sea level rise and infrastructure.

Asked about his negative campaign strategies, Straz denied that they’re negative. He’s just telling the truth, he said.
