Rise Up Sunday Sessions: Nahko & Medicine For The People The second presentation in the new monthly concert series spurred by Reggae Rise Up Festival features a first-rate world music collective that synthesizes elements of folk rock, funk, reggae, hip-hop and Afro-beat in their shimmering, buoyant, brass-splashed music. Oregon native leader Nahko “Bear” has a husky urgent vocal quality and uses Medicine for the People to track his journey toward spiritual and social healing, spread uplifting messages, and offer words of encouragement and calls to action; his band includes players on kora, violin and horns. Nahko & Medicine For The People are on the road behind just-released third studio album, HOKA, which Nahko describes as “the soundtrack of the movement for a better planet.” Warm-up from Satsang. Letlive. with Seahaven, Silver Snakes, Night Verses Post-hardcore has spawned its own barrage of subgenres, best exemplified by bands like Letlive., which blend a variety of influences into their traditional mix of tension-wrought guitars and explosive choruses, ample shifts in tonality reflecting the lyrical emotion. Underground pop-punk makers Seaheaven have a forthcoming release in 2017, and proceeds from latest single "Find a Way" will be donated to Equality Florida in response to the recent tragedy in Orlando. Silver Snakes specialize in melodic hardcore, relying on the old adage that less is more.
