Sick of all these kids with their school walkouts and their rallies and their opinions about not wanting to get shot at their institutions of learning? Good news: Second amendment activists and other members of the gun community (yeah, the press release says "gun community," and doesn't that sound nice?) have a rally coming up tomorrow, Saturday, May 5 at Sarasota's Bayfront Park.

Staged by the volunteers at Rally for our Rights Manasota, this "peaceful, positive, patriotic exercise of our First Amendment right to defend our Second Amendment right" begins at 10 a.m. by the "Unconditional Surrender" statue in Bayfront Park. The demonstration also includes an optional march across the Ringling Bridge at 11:30 a.m., though the march will not have a police escort and marchers must obey all pedestrian traffic laws.

An encouraging detail: The organizers ask that attendees leave their open-carry weapons at home, and refrain from bringing signs with "inappropriate language" — we're not sure how the "no guns" thing will shake out or what constitutes "inappropriate language," but we wholeheartedly applaud the rally's principals for encouraging a civil, non-militant tone.

Those interested in attending can RSVP for themselves and up to nine guests here.
