Jo Jo Gunne
JO JO GUNNE
(Collector's Choice)
Formed by two refugees from the SoCal psychedelic band Spirit, Jay Ferguson and Mark Andes, Jo Jo Gunne made the kind of untethered-to-genre rock 'n' roll that's all but impossible these days. The band retained some hippie-era stylistic residue but had a foundation in boogie and blues, with respectable guitar solos lacing through most of the tunes. In many regards, this type of band was a dime a dozen in the early '70s; Jo Jo Gunne set itself apart by the quality of its material — "Run Run Run" is a hooky slice of bouncy power-pop — as well as Ferguson's likeable vocals.
