Rooftop bee colony at MFA St. Pete inspiration for urban beekeeping talk

Bees in the trap.

UPDATED 8/30 12;34 p.m.

Is this peak hipster? Who cares. Bees are disappearing, but not if the Museum of Fine Arts St. Pete can help it.

Together with Noble Nectar Apiaries the MFA has opened its rooftop to colonies of honey bees that are already busy pollinating the urban gardens of the Sunshine City. The Florida Department of Agriculture’s Becky Dineen will join Professor Maura Scanlon (a biologist and adviser for the SPC Student Chapter of the Tampa Bay Association of Environmental Professionals) in front of a live beehive for a chat that’ll shed light on the ins and outs and best practices of urban beekeeping.

Thurs. Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m. MFA, St. Petersburg. mfastpete.org
