✔️ Queens of the Stone Age It’s been four years since the Queens of the Stone Age took the stage in St. Petersburg. Last time, the audience clapped as frontman Josh Homme dragged a drunk local stage-climber onto the floor by the scruff of his neck, before sitting down at the piano and performing a gut-wrenching rendition of “The Vampyre of Time and Memory.” QOTSA has given it everything it has every time I’ve seen the band. Here’s hoping it tears the roof off the Mahaffey again with the dance party that is the band’s latest collaboration with Mark Ronson, 2017’s Villains. This show is sold out. ✔️ Brian Jonestown Massacre It all began in San Francisco in the early 1990s under multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter and sometimes madman Anton Newcombe. Shoegaze, psychedelic rock, folk and a dash of world music (the good kind) culminated in a sound that is singular. Many imitate it, but none succeed at ripping off the crazy collective’s tone crafted under the careful direction of Newcombe. Think Blue Cheer and Iron Butterfly, but way more fucked up. With 17 albums in less than three decades, the project is downright prolific and not to be missed. (Orpheum, Ybor City) INFO
Victor Wooten w/Sinbad Yes, that Sinbad is on this show headlined by bass daddy Victor Wooten, who is no stranger to The Cap. “Although people may know about my love for music, most don’t know that I also play (shedding hard for this tour ). I can’t believe I get to be in the band playing percussion with Victor, his brothers and the rest of this talented band,” the comic wrote in a release. “Victor is not only one of the baddest bass players that ever lived, but his approach to music is the most unique of any musician I have ever met.
