This was a foregone conclusion after yesterday’s cancellation of 2021 Gasparilla day and children’s parade, but the Knight Parade—originally postponed until May 1—has now been officially canceled as well.

On Wednesday morning, a rep for the  Krewe of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade, which usually runs down Seventh Avenue in Ybor City, told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that the City of Tampa was looking over final details of a press release. The Knight Parade  is part of the Gasparilla season of events, but it is not one of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla’s official events.

That press release says the 2022 date for the Knight Parade is Saturday, Feb. 12.

“We’ve worked closely with the City of Tampa and the parade’s presenting sponsor MOR-TV to assess the potential health risks to the community,” Ken Willis, Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago member and 2021 parade chairman, wrote. “Our Board of Directors has decided it’s best for our community to cancel this year’s parade, and plan to celebrate safely in 2022.”

The Krewe says it will continue to support the community through its scholarship program, which has provided nearly $3 million in higher education assistance since 1994.

"In addition, the Krewe made a donation to Feeding Tampa Bay, the region’s largest nonprofit providing hunger relief, as it saw the need for food assistance nearly triple in 2020. The donation provided approximately 50,000 meals for local families in need," the release added.
