American Stage in the Park opens its spring season with Little Shop of Horrors, Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's sci-fi musical comedy based on the low-budget 1960s cult film about Seymour, a geeky floral assistant who finds an exotic, Venus flytrap-like plant after a total eclipse of the sun. He brings it back to the Skid Row flower shop where he works in the hopes of drumming up some more business for his boss and while his plan is a success, he soon finds himself playing nursemaid to the plant, which develops an insatiable appetite for fresh blood. Seymour feeds the demanding plant with drops from his own fingers, but its demands grow with its increasing size and eventually, the R&B-singing carnivore is offering Seymour his heart's desire in exchange for a steady supply of human flesh. Steven Flaa directs the American Stage production.
