On the Sauce: Flu Shot

A cocktail can totally cure the common cold, right?

Here's the thing: Over the course of several nights, I've been feeling like I'm coming down with something. I haven't, luckily, because I absolutely cannot let that happen. With CL's annual Cocktail Issue coming at me like a freight train, there's no time to be under the weather.

Here's another thing: I still have to get my drink on. Partly because it's my job, but mostly because it's what I do.

That's why — while brainstorming what concoction to feature — I took my getting-drunk-can-totally-cure-me ass over to the refrigerated, ready-to-drink beverage section of the grocery store for some immunity-boosting kombucha. If you're into using health-conscious mixers in your favorite vice over ice, this isn't the first time we've incorporated kombucha into On the Sauce. Almost two years ago (wait, what?!), I elevated brunch with the Guava-Elderflower Bellini and remixed a popular drink order in the Florida Mule.

This week's cocktail is light, refreshing and totally drinkable, so you can have several in one sitting — and, believe me, I have. Those who aren't in the mood for tequila, however, can swap out the spirit with a nice gin or vodka. Oh, and the recipe calls for at least two kinds of juice alongside the kombucha, which means there's no way you'll have to call in sick tomorrow, right?

You're not gonna call out. You're not gonna lie to yourself about swearing off drinking. And although this Flu Shot might not be scientifically proven to ward off the common cold, the theory hasn't been debunked, either.
