If there's anything that Project Runway has taught me, it's that a poorly designed garment is either forgettable in its mediocrity or unforgettable in its atrocity, while a good design arouses the senses, breeds curiosity and offers a peek into the mind of the designer. A new batch of reality television regulars (myself included) were transformed into earnest fashion enthusiasts with the 2004 premiere of Bravo's hit show, and this Saturday evening, we'll get a chance to test our savvy at Strut, the International Academy of Design and Technology's 21st annual runway show. Hundreds of fashions created by more than 70 student designers — the best of the best — are flaunted by professional runway models from New York and Miami. Preceding the event is a Design Expo, which features portfolio pieces produced by IADT students of media arts, digital photography, animation, production and interior design. Sat., May 13, 4 p.m. design expo, 8 p.m. show, Tampa Convention Center, 333 S. Franklin St., Tampa, $30 premium/$20 general/$10 students with I.D., Tampa, www.academy.edu.
