Tonight in live music; Fifth Harmony at the old Gary, Limbs & Blacksmith at The Bends, The New Rulers take on Dance Craze

Live movie soundtracks, free emo, and some X-Factor alum.

Fifth Harmony w/Jojo/Jake Miller/Victoria Monet After a career that started with a few hits before running into some label fits, Jojo has finally found her way back to the big stage. The 25-year-old pop star born Joanna Noëlle Blagden is opening for X-Factor USA Season Two sensations Fifth Harmony (on tour supporting their latest album, 7/27, which probably has nothing to do with the Pinellas County area code) and she stands to give fans of the Fox Network's singing competition a great reason to show up early. Jojo’s new album Mad Love finds her all grown up and even cursing (!) on new single, “F*** Apologies” with Wiz. Khalifa. It’s Jojo’s first batch of new material since 2006 and sees her also linking up with P!nk and Tori Kelly producer Oscar Holter and Bieber, Gwen Stefani, and Selena Gomez songwriter Justin Tranter in the hopes of making a big move on the pop charts. There’s no telling how it’ll actually play out in the giant shed we call the old Gary, but there’ll definitely be a healthy crowd to see Jojo try to pull it off. LIMBS w/Frontrunner/Blacksmith/Middle Child Is it possible to bounce off the walls at The Bends? We’ll see tonight when the Tampa post-hardcore outfit LIMBSS takes to the swanky St. Pete dive for a free show. The band has been busy in the studio and is headed to Texas’ So What Music Festival in October (2X4, ‘68, 7 Minutes In Heaven, and more are on that bill), but before all that the group will show off the work it’s been doing on a follow-up to 2014’s Admission EP and a pair of 2015 singles (“Ruin,” “Poison”). Get there early to see Blacksmith show off a brand new EP, fall/apart, on which they’ve crafted a beautiful, dramatic 15 minutes of almost orchestral throwback emo that breathes in and out on songs like “Open Wound” before it breaks the nostalgia wide open on EP closer “Concern.” Did we mention there’s no cover? Listen to another song, "Ruin" below.
