Get out of your blankets and bedding before June 9 when Tony Award-winning musical Come From Away closes its Tampa run at the Straz Center. With lyrics and music written by Grammy nominees (buy the cast recording on yellow vinyl, people), the musical is set in the week following 9/11 and tells the true story of 7,000 stranded passengers who disembarked off 38 grounded planes before being welcomed by the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The news stories about the unplanned immigration tell some less savory parts, but the production romanticizes it (“Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships”) with some pretty great results.

June 4-9. Morsani Hall at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. Macinnes Pl., Tampa. Strazcenter.org.
