Bombay Dreams

When was the last time the Bay area hosted two dance-oriented events involving India within the same week? Never, would be the best guess. Well, here it is. On Sat., April 15 at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble combines classical Indian dance forms with modern creative movement to convey "powerful philosophical ideas and ancient stories of India." Across the bay, starting on Wed., April 19, Ruth Eckerd Hall presents a more fun and frivolous sort of program: the Broadway musical Bombay Dreams, set in India's bustling film community. Hey, this spoof of Bollywood even includes two lavish water dance scenes. Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, Sat., April 15, 7:30 p.m., TBPAC, $22.50-$45.50, www.tbpac.org; Bombay Dreams, Wed., April 19 through Sun., April 23, $37.50-$57.50, www.rutheckerdhall.com.
