Her first exhibition in at least a decade and a solo show at that, Awai presented 21 new 14-inch square paintings of both abstraction and representation, combining drawing, collage, photo transfer and other techniques. With imaginative mixed media such as leaves crunched under a rice paper graphite illustration, Awai took the viewer to unexpected junctures between conceptual and natural worlds, with wondrous and inventive overlaps conveyed ever so subtly.
