Every six weeks or so, local wrestling fans gather to spiritedly enjoy some minor-league matches hosted by several different Bay area venues. This Saturday night, regulars, curiosity seekers, charitable newbies and everyone in between are invited to Pinellas Park for the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup 2006. One part tournament showcasing 16 cruiserweight wrestlers from around the world, one part fundraiser for a local charity, the event honors the late Jeff Peterson, an independent cruiserweight wrestler who died at 21 after a two-year battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. First round matches occur Friday night in Sanford, Fla. The winners make their way to Pinellas Park to compete in a series of bouts that culminate with the finals, where the best of the best face-off and the ultimate victor is awarded with the cup.
