✔️ Robert Randolph and the Family Band w/Jessica Hernandez Clapton and Carlos Santana absolutely love Robert Randolph (a 2004 DVD featuring Randolph slinging searing sacred steel at Clapton’s Crossroads Festival is a must-watch), and while the 40-year-old Jersey boy still doesn’t fill arenas the way his older admirers do, you’ve got to think that he’s on his way. The music festival favorite will be headed to Memphis for a Mempho Festival 14-person superjam featuring Oteil Burbridge, Steve Kimock and Eric Krasno after this gig at the Capitol Theatre, and we can’t imagine that Randolph will ever play a room this small again. Kublai Khan w/No Zodiac/Left Behind/I Am If you need proof about Kublai Khan’s place in a crowded metalcore scene, then listen to “B.C” from its brand new LP, Nomad (released September 29). On it the Texas-based Rise Records signees churn up big riffs and neck-snapping breakdowns while frontman Matt Honeycutt rails against the use of religion to justify slavery and erase cultural identities across the globe and history. There are a lot of bands operating in the same space as Kublai Khan these days (and this Thursday bill is crowded as well), but these guys lay waste to most everyone around. (Crowbar, Ybor City) INFO

✔️ Rock The Park w/Kevin Maines and The Volts/Sam E Hues/The Sara Rose Band Kevin Maines won’t have to travel too far to get to downtown Tampa’s free, monthly outdoor concert, but we can bet that the Orlando-based bluesman will have to take several return trips once this town gets a load of the fiery (“Kerosene”), sometimes soulful (“Shot Her Down”) and organ-laden (“I’ll Be Good Come Sunday Morning”) rock and roll he’s laying down on his American Hustle EP. C0mputer w/Plastisol/Vacancy Members of Philadelphia’s Vivian K have formed another band (C0mputer — yup, that’s a zero), and on Friday it brings the grinding noise and thrash of a June cassette (how the neobrutalists won the west) to Seminole Heights’s Microgroove record shop (a BOTB-winner) for a show alongside Tampa sludge rockers Vacancy and St. Pete-based two-drummer band Plastisol. Sgt. Pepper turns 50 — Is it The Beatles' most important album?
✔️ Deconstructing The Beatles w/Scott Freiman/Touch The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band turned 50 years old a few months ago, but USF composer and musician Scott Freiman wants to take a closer look at the album for this lecture. Be ready for a deep dive into the idiosyncrasies of the recording and writing process, but also get there early to see Touch — an iPad band from the university — open the show.
