Gilbert King has a way of making us think about Florida's racist past and say, "yeah, a loose cobra in Ocala or weirdo criminals in Miami are really not that big of a deal." In his latest book, Beneath a Ruthless Sun, it's not an easy story of — pardon the pun — black and white. It's a nuanced story that, at first blush, makes no sense: Why did a racist-ass sheriff arrest a white dude? Guess you're gonna have to read the book and then come to the talk, hosted by Tombolo Books — it's better to think of them as a "literature entropy" than a bookstore, because they're so much more. They've wrangled not only Bob Devin Jones but Colette Bancroft, and the threesome will have a chat about King's book as The [email protected] dishes up light snacks and awareness will all be served. Wine costs extra.

Tombolo's the host, so if you're gonna buy the book, you're gonna buy from them, right? You can pre-order it and bring it to the event to sign — along with any other of King's books.
