The state of Florida reached a new grim milestone today, logging over 15,000 deaths related to COVID-19.
According to the Florida Department of Health, the death toll for Florida residents increased by 1,490 and 180 non-Florida resident deaths on Wednesday, leaving the total at 15,084.
In addition to an increase of 139 deaths, the state also added 2,582 positive cases, raising the statewide total to 722,707.
About one in every 1,440 people in the state have died from the virus.
Since March, Hillsborough County has reported 43,304 cases and 680 deaths, while Pinellas County has reported 22,697 cases and 778 deaths.
There are currently 460 people in Tampa Bay hospitalized due to COVID-19.
Two weeks ago, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Florida would be entering Phase 3 of reopening, allowing restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and gyms to operate at full capacity. The order also lifted any penalties for refusing to wear masks.
