Popular food truck Slap Yo Mama opened its first restaurant location in Tampa last week to much delight. Slap Yo Mama began as a food truck in 2018 at the intersection of Waters Avenue and Anderson Road. Over the last couple years, its fan base grew with every new stop they added in Tampa.

The menu includes a small selection of dishes like Bang, Bang, Bang Shrimp, Mama’s Wings, and cheesesteak egg rolls. For larger parties, catering and delivery are available.

“We wanted to bring some flavors we didn’t in the city to the city,” co-owner Richie Wess said in a recent Bay News 9 interview about the food truck’s origins.

Slap Yo Mama Lounge is open Monday-Friday 11 a.m.- 2 a.m. and Saturday-Sunday noon-midnight. Find them at 3007 W. Cypress St. in the Midtown section of Tampa.

By the way, per Urban Dictionary, “slap you momma” refers to instances “When you try some new food that tastes so delicious it makes you wonder "why can't my mom cook this well?". This thought makes you so angry that you feel like slapping your mom for feeding you mediocre food.”

“Of course, this is usually meant as a joke or figure of speech. Most people love their mothers and would never do such a thing,” the website added.
