Creative Loafing Tampa Bay’s love of Danny & Alex is no secret. A past summer intern, Mady Dudley, turned us on to the pop duo, and we loved the boys so much that we asked them to be in our 2018 Music Issue highlighting 30 Tampa Bay musicians under 30 years old.

Well, it looks like National Public Radio Tiny Desk Intern Clara Maurer really likes the boys, too. In a post about the band’s Tiny Desk contest submission video for “Breakup Haircut,” Maurer picks up on Danny & Alex’s penchant for goofiness and also notices the chops of the Bay area drummer Natalie Depergola (Garden Club) and bassist Sebastian Siaca (Miroux).

“The song has an irresistible pop beat, a luscious synth chord progression and funky walk of the bass,” Maurer, a Berklee College grad, wrote. “While many break-up songs are based on bitter feelings and unrequited love, Danny and Alex assures us that this is an optimistic tune, "all about transformation rejuvenation."

NPR is taking submissions for its Tiny Desk Contest until April 14. If you’re a Bay area band that’s submitted something in 2019, then let us know via Twitter or Facebook.
