For its 9-year anniversary, free outdoor concert series Rock the Park booked itself a heater. Charles Irwin — a Tampa band that is headed out of state for a tour that runs all the way up the east coast — kicks things off with sounds from a new album, Beach Lake Drive, where songs play like the harmonious groove of Beatlemania coupled with the vocal tone of Vance Joy and the benevolent attitude of modern, upbeat indie standouts like Twin Peaks.
Tampa indie-rock band Brother Cephus headlines with a set that’ll hopefully give fans a look into a follow-up to one of 2017’s best local albums (Not That Important), but the biggest selling point on this bill is the resurrection of soul, dub and hip-pop trio Hot Box, whose brand of funky smoke session music has been sorely missed during a three-year hiatus.
The show is free to attend, and family-friendly.
