Seminole Heights’ Independent Bar and Café hasn’t hosted a live gig since Tampa Bay Beer Week in March. Jazz trumpeter and University of South Florida professor James Suggs (pictured) has the lucky gig of bringing live music back to the Indie patio. Suggs will be joined by guitarist LaRue Nickelson and bassist Alejandro Arenas for the bar’s decade-old First Saturday Jazz series.
Suggs’ debut album You’re Gonna to Hear From Me was one of the best local albums to come out in recent years. Indie owner Veronica Danko told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that the Indie is still following strict safety precautions, and offering limited seating first come, first served. There is no cover but there will be a two-drink minimum, which will be an easy task considering the bar’s beer selection.
