Tampa Electric Company will be able to recoup $46 million from customers for five solar-energy projects in Hillsborough and Polk counties.
TBBJ reports that Monday saw Florida Public Service Commission (whose mission is to facilitate the efficient provision of safe and reliable utility services at fair prices) give a key approval to the power company.
The hit to the average homeowner will be $2.46 cents, effective on January 1, according to Florida Politics, which also said that customers would be entitled to refunds if any of the projects are delayed.
The projects approved on Monday will total about 260 megawatts and are expected to begin operating in January, according to TECO, which serves about 750,000 customers in Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco and Pinellas counties.
“TECO’s solar projects increase Florida’s renewable development, which is good for the economy, as well as the environment,” Public Service Commission Chairman Art Graham said in a prepared statement after the vote. “Today’s approval benefits customers with a solar plan that allows TECO’s retail rates to be among the lowest in Florida.”
We'll see about that.
