True story: Yertle (the turtle) was based on Hitler.
Ahem.
St. Pete artist and writer team Daniel Govar and Heather Bay aren't saying the titular character in Mr. Trunk Builds a Wall is based on anyone, but we suspect maybe they're basing Mr. Trunk on Donald Trump.
Mr. Ronald Trunk wants to build a wall so his son, Ronnie, can't play with the kids across the creek. Ronnie wants to play with the animals on the other side of the creek from the Trunk family's big ol' house that happens to be painted white. Also, they're elephants.
We're pretty sure this is all coincidence.
"The story's message is to 'build bridges, not walls'," Govar says, noting that the animals the wall will keep out — banned animals, if you will — include a snow leopard, tapir, sloth and toucan.
We're gonna leave that right here, but before you go, know that this book is filled with little delights (see the donkey playing sax? Look at how that elephant has George W.'s eyes. Yep) and it has a Kickstarter to get it funded (along with all the Kickstarter goodies depending on what you donate. Donate local, guys!).
With a little luck, this book will get funded — the message is true, no matter what you think of our President, and kids won't see the deeper political meaning (that's just for us grown-ups) — so one day, kids will grow up and realize, hey, Mr. Trunk was based on Donald Trump.
