FRIDAY OCTOBER 03

✔️  Matt Woods and the Natural Disasters w/Chris Stalcup Knoxville, Tennessee’s bearded, blue-eyed songwriting gift to the South brings his never-ending tour (it just wrapped a European leg) to Seminole Heights for a full-band set in support of a 2016 LP, How To Survive, which was financed after Woods sold his house to afford studio fees. Georgia strummer Chris Stalcup leaves his band (The Grange) behind for this show where we’ll belt out a country-rock solo set. E(lla's Americana Folk Art Café, Tampa) INFO

Review: Usher, Lil’ Jon and a packed Curtis Hixon Park score huge win for Tampa

Gavin DeGraw Forty-year-old piano-pop songwriter Gavin DeGraw was kind of a strange bird at his chilly January downtown Tampa appearance as part of all the College Football Championship hoopla, but it looks like all of the diehard fans have scooped up all the tickets at this sold-out Capitol Theatre gig in support of his latest album, 2016’s Something Worth Saving. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater) SOLD OUT

Sister Hazel Fans who slept on the intimate Thursday-night duo gig from Sister Hazel’s Drew Copeland and Ken Block will still have a good time at The Ritz, where Gainesville AAA-rock-ruling outfit Sister Hazel arrives to play songs from its latest album (last year’s Lighter In the Dark) as well as classic cuts like “All For You,” which has been inciting singalongs since 1997. Cuba Now: Revolution on wheels

Under the Cuban Sun: Voices of Cuba A photographic exploration of Cuban Culture is coming to downtown Tampa, so the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts wants to warm residents up by offering the microphone to anyone who wants to speak and (hopefully) sing about their experiences related to the still-mystical Caribbean country. (Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa) INFO

Moffitt Rocks Tampa Bay VIP Reception w/Emerson Hart Here’s a big ticket ($200-$250) opportunity to be a bit philanthropic while also getting to take in a stripped-down concert from Emerson Hart (frontman for ‘90s post-rock alt-roots outfit Tonic). If the chance to help people with cancer isn’t good enough for you, then know that there’s a little added value here since a ticket to this also gets you into a Saturday show at The Cuban Club where Nebraska rock-rap-reggae hybrid act 311 takes the stage. Review: Lil Uzi Vert is not a rapper, and that works more than fine on the must-listen Luv Is Rage 2

✔️  Last Damn Show w/Chance the Rapper/Migos/Ludacris/Lecrae/24hrs/Jessie Reyez/more Welp, fans hoping to catch a set from enigmatic rapper Lil’ Uzi Vert are going to be bummed since he dropped off the bill for this return of Tampa hip-hop station Wild 94.1 FM’s Last Damn Show concert. There are plenty of mighty fine consolation acts to be had though, so expect Amalie to still pack it in when Migos, Chance the Rapper, Jessie Reyez and Lecrae come to the Channelside District. An after-party at Skye in Ybor City should bring at least a couple more songs from another Last Damn Show highlight (Ludacris), but you all know that patience is a virtue at the late-night after-show gigs. ✔️  Victor Wainwright and the Train Album Release Party w/Backtrack Blues Band The horn-laden sound coming out of the Palladium Theater’s Hough Hall on Friday is The Train, Victor Wainwright’s backing band which will be on hand when the honky-tonk piano man celebrates the release of a new album that we suspect continues Wainwright’s expedited evolution into each and every subgenre the blues can throw at him.
