A 40-year-old Tampa woman and her 22-year-old daughter were arrested earlier this week for attempting to use a drone to deliver tobacco and cell phones to an incarcerated relative.
According to a Bay News 9 article, the pair planned to use the drone to deliver the contraband to the mother's husband, who is doing time at Martin Correctional Institute in Indiantown, by dropping it off on the roof of one of the facility's buildings. But correctional officers saw the drone buzzing around the facility, because drones aren't invisible, and responding deputies found the pair driving around just outside the grounds.
The pair were arrested; the mother has been charged with introducing contraband into a correctional facility, while the daughter has been charged as an accessory.
