Mother’s Day sentiments aren’t taken lightly in the Gronkowski household, where former New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski told Ellen the main reason he came to Tampa was his mom.
“The main course, the main reason I came down to Tampa to play was because my mother lives two hours away,” Gronk told Ellen in a recent interview. “She can get to all of my games, all eight of our home games. Whenever I have days off, she's two hours down the street and I get to see her. So she's super excited.”
His mom lives in Fort Myers, where he is currently quarantining, he said in the interview.
After spending a season in retirement, the “Masked Singer” contestant and “Game On” star announced in March he would be returning to the game with Tampa Bay Buccaneers, alongside his buddy Tom Brady.
While many speculated Brady was the catalyst for Gronk’s decision—even he joked about Brady begging him through tears to join him in Tampa on The Late Late Show with James Corden—Gronk said Brady was just “the appetizer.”
“All of a sudden he screams on the phone, ‘Rob, I just want you to come back and play with me!’ And I was like, ‘Oh alright, alright. I’ll come back then, Tom. No problem,’” joked Gronk to Corden.
When he retired, Gronk said he felt it was the right decision after playing football for 15 to 16 years straight. After giving his body a break, he’s now excited to be back on the field.
