Tonight in live music; these are the best Bay area concerts happening on Saturday, February 3 — go see one

G3, Coin, Localtopia, Streetcar Live, Harold López Nussa, Melanie and so much more.

✔️ Melanie Woodstock alum Melanie reminded her fanbase that it was made up of “Beautiful People” when she hit it big in the ‘70s, and on Saturday she’ll be at this St. Pete listening room to play more hit songs (“Ruby Tuesday,” “Brand New Key” and the anthemic “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)”) while also celebrating her 70th birthday. (Hideaway Café, St. Petersburg) INFO

ZACH RECORDED MOLLY
Coffee run: Nashville singer-songwriter Molly Parden is fully caffeinated and fully herself

✔️ Coin Coin bassist Zachary Dyke unknowingly worked his name onto the pages of CL in December thanks to the work he’s doing for one of our favorite songwriters, Nashville’s Molly Parden. This week Dyke brings his Music City-based band to headline a show at The Ritz, where we hope it’ll play a brand new single, “Youuu,” which adds even more shimmer to Coin’s already polished take on indie-pop. (The Ritz, Ybor City) INFO

Matt Linton Ordained minister, international evangelist and MGMA-nominated God-rocker Matt Linton is bringing his work for the Lord to east Tampa (Lord Jesus, not Lort Trump, we’re assuming; it says “MGMA-nominated,” not “MAGA-nominated”). Linton is supporting his latest album, I’ve Got To Praise Him, which was released last March, and if his concert washes away too much of your sin, then rest assured, because the casino and one of those sketchy massage parlors is just around the corner. (East Chelsea Baptist Church, Tampa) INFO

BEST OF THE BAY 2017
Best Cover Band: Same Day Delivery Orchestra

✔️ Living Room Sessions Presents Same Day Delivery Orchestra Bob Soptei’s house show series returns in 2018 with a show by this BOTB-winning ensemble which takes the songs from many of the Bay area’s best local groups (Alexander and the Grapes, Band of Sorrows, Geri X and Sun Signs, to name a few) and turns them into instrumental pieces. These shows usually host songwriters, so expect it to be a little more packed than usual. Bring your favorite dish to the potluck starting at 6 p.m., and visit cltampa.com/musicweek for more info. (House Show, Pasadena) INFO

The Verve Pipe It’s been more than 20 years since the song hit No. 1, and we’re still only freshmen. Once-mighty Michigan radio-rock group The Verve Pipe is playing different sorts of venues on this tour, and this one happens in a small-ish Ybor City listening room, so don’t expect the electric rock show you saw on YouTube last week. (The Attic at Rock Brothers Brewing, Ybor City) INFO

✔️ Harold López Nussa Local readers of CL know how delicious a Cuban anything can be (cigars, sandwiches, even the Cuban flu sounds enticing right now), and that’s why we expect the music hall on St. Petersburg College’s Gibbs campus to be full when Havana-based composer and pianist Harold López Nussa kicks off a short February tour of Florida. Jazz rag DownBeat has written that the young musician’s “single-note grace is akin to Herbie Hancock’s, and his two-fisted attacks are as joyous as Chick Corea’s,” which is great since Corea just left an audience slack-jawed in the same room less than three weeks ago. (St. Petersburg College Music Hall, St. Petersburg) INFO

MIC CHICK; ONE, TWO
Chick Corea Akoustic Band dazzles fans from around the globe at rare, intimate St. Petersburg College gigs

St. Pete Beach Seafood and Music Festival w/Act 3/The Black Honkeys/Greg Billings Band/Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio/Greg Billings Band/Reverend Barry & the Funk/RJ Howson/Sarasota Steel Pan Band The first-ever St. Pete Beach Seafood & Music festival kicks off on Saturday, ends on Sunday and promises to bring Calypso, Caribbean, rock, jazz and R&B sounds to Corey Avenue. BOTB-winning Black Honkeys Band plays both days, and a full schedule is available via seafoodfestivals.com. (Corey Ave., St. Pete Beach) INFO

A Star In Life’s Clothing w/Dynasty The one-woman music and monologue show from Tampa emcee Dynasty was powerful enough in its initial run to earn a trip back to Stageworks in February. Tickets for the celebration of love, life and lyrics will likely move quickly, so don’t say we didn’t warn you this time around. (Stageworks Theatre, Tampa) INFO

✔️ Streetcar Live w/Oak Hay TECO recently decided to waive streetcar fares on Saturdays, so that means 74 riders at a time can wave hello and goodbye to those left on the street when Tampa bluegrass band Oak Hay plays a one-of-a-kind onboard concert. (TECO Streetcar System, Ybor City and downtown Tampa) INFO

HEY JOE
Interview: Before Clearwater show, G3 mastermind Joe Satriani dishes on his new record, Phil Collen’s singing and more

✔️G3 feat. Joe Satriani/John Petrucci/Phil Collen Not even the shirtless, older-but-still-sort-of-buff torso of Def Leppard’s Phil Collen could dissuade us from heading to St. Pete for this show by guitar-god supergroup G3, which includes Dream Theater’s John Petrucci and solo superstar Joe Satriani. Satriani says the G3 tours are an excuse for him to connect with old friends (“success had isolated me from everybody, all my friends who are musicians,” he recently said in a radio interview), so expect this one to be a lot of pure, unhinged fun. Read CL’s interview with Collen here. (Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg) INFO

I'M CALLEN PHIL
Phil Collen talks Def Leppard, rediscovering guitar and keeping up with Satriani on the G3 tour

✔️ The Green w/Sammy J/Leilani Wolfgramm Oahu-based roots and reggae-rock group The Green traveled nearly 5,000 miles to get to the Sunshine City, so we’re thinking that there’ll be plenty of Bay area fans ready to say aloha when the band comes to play State Theatre. The band’s 2017 album is called Marching Orders, after all, and it did spend a lot of time in the top 10 of Billboard’s reggae charts. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg) INFO

MO' ROW
CL Premiere: Row Jomah ponders the end of an affair on “Shred the Gnar” from new LP, Guns & God & Gold

Row Jomah Beer Release w/Serotonic Row Jomah — which blends a little pop into its own brand of acoustic guitar-driven funk and rock — is getting into the special edition beer game this Saturday when the group visits Palm Harbor, where de Brine Brewing is unleashing an IPA inspired by RowJo tunes. (de Bine Brewing Co., Palm Harbor) INFO

Randall Bramblett Ybor City just took a spin at Randall Bramblett’s Juke Joint at the End of the World last October, but the mellow and sometimes-jazzy 11th studio release from the Georgia songwriter should get new life when it comes out of the speakers inside the very quirky SHAMc theater. (Safety Harbor Art & Music Center, Safety Harbor) INFO

BOY'S DON'T CRY
The Crate Brothers celebrate two years of Emo Night Tampa

✔️ Emo Night Tampa w/Crate Bros. It’s the Feb-’sode of the wildly popular, DJ-driven Emo Night Tampa party series. Chilly temperatures gave devotees another thing to have feelings about last month, but we’re thinking it’ll be much warmer in the courtyard this time around. (First Chance Last Chance Bar, Ybor City) INFO

✔️ Localtopia 2018 w/Mountain Holler/Ella Jet & Future Soul/The Hummingbirds/LoungeCat/Rebekah Pulley and the Reluctant Prophets/Kaleigh Baker/Boxcar Hollow Downtown St. Petersburg’s annual celebration of all things local will bring scores of vendors to Williams Park, where a generous helping of Bay area music \makers will play Americana, pop, soul, folk and more for the masses. An updated lineup and more information is available via keepsaintpetersburglocal.org/localtopia. (Williams Park, St. Petersburg) INFO

WORDPLAY
Deezy Wee’s local flavor is the key ingredient of Pickled Oranges

✔️ Deezy Wee The Reaper Album Release Show w/Sam E Hues/Ayo Mama/Tony Handz/Gat$/Mari So Dope Pelican State guitarist Tab Benoit isn’t the only guy doing a two-night run in the Bay area this weekend. After some delays, gravelly-throated Tampa rapper Deezy Wee The Reaper is finally set to share his Pickled Oranges EP by staging two release shows on both sides of the bay. Last night's in Ybor City found him joined by Swavor, Tony Handz, Nico Sweet and Audio Artwork, while the February 3 show in downtown St. Pete invites Handz, Ayo Mama, Gat$, and Mari So Dope to the stage at downtown St. Pete’s Iberian Rooster. (Iberian Rooster, St. Petersburg) INFO
