Tampa Bay songwriter John Frinzi has toured nationally, playing over 250 dates a year. Some of those dates includes stops at festivals like the Keith Sykes Songwriters Celebration, Key West Songwriters Festival and Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival.

“I have always wanted to start one in our area on the beach,” Frinzi told CL. So he’s staging the three-day Summer Sun Songfest at the Bilmar Beach Resort in Treasure Island.

Set for August 23-25, the festival includes sets by multi-platinum songwriter Aaron Scherz and Nashville songwriter Brendan Mayer (The Turf). Also included on the lineup are an original guitarist from Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band (Roger Bartlett) and current Corral Reefer Doyle Grisham, whose steel guitar can be heard on numerous Buffett songs.

“I'm lucky to have a number of super talented friends who have made time to join me for this weekend of music,” Frinzi, who is also on the bill, told CL.

John Patti, James White, Jimi Pappas, Donovan Roberts and Tropicool are also on the bill.

The registration fee for a three-day pass is $89, and no hotel reservations are required. Kids under 12 are free. All Summer Sun Songfest stage areas are covered, and the festival has also reserved the Bilmar’s ballroom reserved if it gets really nasty outside.

A free-to-attend Sunday afternoon afterparty is booked for Paradise Grille in Pass-A-Grille from 4 p.m.-8 p.m.
