You've only got about a week and a half left to check out Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art and Street Culture at USF's Contemporary Art Museum, and we cannot recommend this hip, eclectic, surprisingly comprehensive show enough. Featuring everything from painting and photography to video, T-shirt and skateboard graphics, graffiti and independent publishing, Beautiful Losers chronicles 30 years of the multimedia fringe art that grew out of such formerly underground American subcultures as skateboarding, hip-hop and punk rock. Several names (Andy Warhol; photographers Glen E. Friedman, Larry Clark and Craig R. Stecyk; cartoonist R. Crumb; pro skaters-turned-artists Mark Gonzales and Ed Templeton) should be instantly familiar to urban-art aficionados, though all will be surprised and knocked out by an extensive, wildly disparate collection that serves as both art show and visual history.
