DRAKE PREVIEW: Three Tampa Bay emcees take on Drizzy
A free, full band, show from Tampa guitarist John Wesley. A free mini-music festival. Drake. A house show with Werewolves. Also on the docket: punk at a tattoo shop, Pharrell's folk protegé, free EDM, plus the return of Crash Mitchell and at least one *facepalm*-worthy band name.

Wolf-Face w/ Stegosaurus/The Handsome Scoundrels/Rushmore Sorry people, you’re going to have to ask a friend (or CL photographer Brian Mahar) how to get to this house show featuring CL’s favorite hairy, pube-eating punk rock rock warewolves. We’re extra excited to hear songs from St. Pete grunge/hardcore outfit Stegosaurus, at this one, too. If you do end up there, have a beer for me, and bring $5 so that The Handsome Scoundrels from Alabama can put gas in the tank. Awful People w/ R-Dent/Expert Timing/Badparker In our issue two weeks ago, CL got comment from Christian Costello, who basically owes his current situation as a punk rock filmmaker & photographer to the now defunct Transitions Art Gallery. In the story we mention Costello’s new community growing out of Lucky You Tattoo, and this show is a good chance to check it out Expert Timing, an Orlando pop-punk outfit propelled by Jeff & Katrina Snyder, who are making the drive to play their shoegaze-influenced style of indie rock. R-Dent are coming from even further away (Jacksonville) in support of an album of sad, mosh-worthy songs, Impatient Success, which they released in July. Vibes Of The Bay w/ SWIMM/Kodiac/Mike Mass/DJ Casper/DJ Lesage/Badda Skat/Jinx/Sun Signs/Someday River/Kerry Courtney/more Free festival with good music? Yes, please! All you’ll have to surrender to get you and/or a guest into Vibes of the Bay is your first & last names and an email address, and while you local Snowdens are scoffing right now, the rest of you who are curious about the vibrant scene that’s bubbling here in Tampa Bay should visit vibesofthebay.com and then head to Ybor where over a dozen hip hop, reggae, folk, psych rock, DJs, and experimental acts will take the stage all while a handful of vendors sling things like craft ginger beer, vinyl, handmade jewelry, planeter boxes and cold brew coffee. Jamaican catering company Jam Dish will be dishing out healthy eats while local Bun Trust One Of The Wurst will be slinging what’s quickly becoming their most infamous offering: a “Tampa Dog” dressed with slow cooked pork, pickles and a swiss cheese chorizo sauce. Sawyer Fredericks, The Straz’s TECO Theater is quiet, and it’s the perfect place to take in a set from Sawyer Fredricks who your mom and dad know from the eighth season of NBC’s The Voice. If you don’t watch the show, then know that Pharrell Williams led Fredericks to a victory, making him the youngest to ever win the competition. His brand of feel-good folk is actually pretty easy to swallow and if you need proof, then queue his new single “Take It All” up on your favorite streaming service. (TECO Theater at the David A. Drake w/ Future/Roy Wood$/Dvsn Oh boy. The Beach’s balls are all gone now, so Views at Amalie Arena will look a little different for this much-anticipated show from Degrassi’s Jimmy Brooks, who now enjoys an illustrious career as North America’s most successful emo-rapper. All jokes aside, don’t expect Drizzy to let any of his fans down at this one. Wax Motif w/ Christian Alexander/Nate Verde Trap music is strange these days. What was originally born in a world where drug deals in sketchy neighborhoods is the norm now has a nice cozy corner for itself in EDM where trap’s ear-biting kicks and trunk rattling bass lines get mixed in with the untz-untz’s of modern dance music. Australia’s Danny Chien (aka Wax Motif) is one of the premiere torch bearers for this sound, and he’ll play this installment of Amphitheatre’s takeover of a storied Ybor City nightclub. Crash Mitchell w/ Porno Party/Abortion Twins Crash is back. The beloved guitar slinger is headlining a set at downtown Tampa’s dive of choice alongside a pair of horribly-named punk-leaning outfits, Porno Party and Abortion Twins. Debauched, good times will be in order. (The Hub, Tampa - INFO)
