The Gaily News: Did the Pope personally call a young gay French man?

A gay, French man having difficulty reconciling his sexuality with his Catholic faith said he received a phone call from Pope Francis reassuring him it’s OK to be gay. The call came after 25-year-old Christophe Trutino sent a letter to the Pope about his struggle with his sexuality.

Pope Francis recently expressed tolerance for gay priests and has been known to make surprise personal phone calls to members of the church. But the Vatican denies the Pope telephoned Trutino, though the gay man says he is certain he recognized the Pope’s voice.

While attending the G20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia this week, President Obama wants to meet with Russian gay rights advocates, while British Prime Minister David Cameron plans to confront Vladimir Putin about his country’s crackdown on its LGBT population. In addition to an anti-gay propaganda law passed earlier this year, a Russian lawmaker has just proposed legislation that would cause gay parents to lose custody of their children.

“Batwoman” co-authors J.H. Williams and W. Haden Blackman said they plan to leave DC Comics after being told to ditch a storyline involving the openly lesbian superhero’s engagement to her girlfriend and their eventual wedding.
