Tampa experimental pop two-piece King of Spain (bassist Daniel Wainright and singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Slate) and Lakeland's one-man indietronic band Mrenc (Mister E-N-C, aka Eric Collins, formerly of The Dark Romantics) have teamed up to produce a split EP cassette (the media format is enjoying a super hip resurgence). The New Granada Records release is limited to 100 hand-numbered copies (MP3 codes included), and among the four tracks featured are King of Spain’s “Green Eyes,” built upon hauntingly melodic vocal harmonies and dark rootsy percussive textures, and the slinky upbeat keyboard-and-clapping wackiness of “Too Much Time” by Mrenc. Providing support on the EP release bill are two out-of-town lo fi indie rocks trios – Chareslton, S.C.’s Company (Co.) and Film Strip from Cleveland.
