The wait for four-time James Beard Award semifinalist chef Jeannie Pierola's third concept, Counter Culture may be nearing an end, as a hiring sign has been posted on the storefront at 2909 W. Bay to Bay Blvd.

The October 2018 debut was pushed to late spring 2019 (thanks to asbestos issues and permitting setbacks), so here we are, expecting a late fall premiere. The local chef and restaurateur is behind Edison: Food+Drink Lab and Swigmajig at Sparkman Wharf, but at Counter Culture, she'll be offering a seasonal menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner service.

On Tuesday morning, an employee at Edison told CL that they do not have an opening date to share, and we're waiting to see if chef Pierola returns our email.

The 3,700-square-foot restaurant features a 14-foot wood-fired grill customized with wood-fired oven and cast-iron plancha stations. Roll-up garage doors line the front of the concept, creating an indoor-outdoor full-liquor bar when raised, which will provide prime seating now that we're entering late-fall temps.

The bar’s fans and heaters should also keep diners comfortable as they brave the unpredictable Florida weather while sipping vibrant craft cocktails developed by Edison bar manager Alex Artishenko.

In a previous interview with CL, Pierola shared that the restaurant will begin serving all-day breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by lunch. Dinner options will then join both lunch and breakfast at 5 p.m. As for brunch, that’s reserved for weekends.
