Tonight in live music: Dave Matthews Band, Authority Zero & more

Some concerts happening this Wed., July 29

Do the Hump Day dance ... maybe to some live music? Here's a breakdown of what's happening this Wed., July 29...

Dave Matthews Band Whether there’s new material to tour behind or not, Dave Matthews Band always hits the road over the summer and without fail, ends up stopping in Tampa Bay with their jazz-pop-rock jams. First set’s acoustic, second set’s plugged in, and guitarist Tim Reynolds continues to add value to the otherwise lushly vanilla enterprise. (MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater, Tampa)

Authority Zero with Counterpunch, Rubedo The current incarnation of Authority Zero might as well be called “Jason DeVore & Friends” – the lineup has seen nine members cycle through, with Devore the only constant since their inception in 1994 and the primary creative force behind punk-rooted material that tastes of Spanish, ska and melodic hardcore influences. But remaining fans of the band’ll tell you that Devore is the only one who really matters, anyway. (Local 662, St. Petersburg)

Nate Najar, Stacey Kent & Jim Tomlinson Fine acoustic jazz guitarist Najar has been lauded as the next Charlie Byrd, Grammy-nominated vocalist Kent is renowned for her capable reading of Brazilian samba and bossa nova, and Kent’s sax playing husband Tomlinson (apparently the Stan Getz to her Astrud Gilberto) arranges and produces all her material; The Lyric – one of their three duets LPs – was named Album of the Year at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2006. (Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg)
