Big Pre-Fest in Little Ybor is bringing more than 80 punk-leaning acts to four Cigar City venues for two days of hangs. But the precursor to the big party in Gainesville also serves as a chance for locals who can’t travel or get off of work to blow off a little steam.
For Chicago’s Sarah Hargis, it’s a chance to come back to her old hometown and catch up with old friends. On day one of Pre-Fest (Oct. 26), she’ll spend four hours bartending at Ybor’s beloved Fuma Bella, a literal hole-in-the-wall on the same block as CL’s headquarters. Though the playlist will be hip-hop and Motown-flavored (“a kind of oasis from all the punk,” she says), the menu is 100-percent inspired by — and named after — the bands on the festival’s lineup.
There’s the Vacation (pictured), which contains vodka, tequila, orange liqueur and a secret blend of juices “guaranteed to give you the warm fuzzies and turn any shoes into dancin' shoes.” Off With Their Heads is a shot of apple pucker and an IPA. And the Underground Railroad to Candyland features Black Strap Rum, ginger liqueur and jalapeño.
You might have double vision if you drink 'em all, but no one's going to stop you from trying.
