My understanding is that Guillemots are pretty well known in the UK. Because I live in the states, where they arent as famous, I think I can stretch this a bit and call them underground. Either way, I am absolutely willing to jeopardize my notoriety as a music discoverer for them. That really should be enough information to convince you to check them out, but I suppose Ill write a little more anyway.
Guillemots is made up of Fyfe Dangerfield (lead vocals, keyboard, guitar), MC Lord Magrao (guitar), Aristazabal Hawkes (double bass), Greig Stewart (percussion).
I remember the very first time I heard Guillemots. I was at a point in my life where I had the super duper hook up with Universal Records, I received one of their very first EPs before it was released and liked the album artwork so much that I put the disc in my cd player immediately. I took the longest route possible to get home just so I could digest every song. Coincidentally, it was one of those days where there wasnt a cloud in the sky, not a drop of humidity, and the most perfect temperature for driving with the windows down even if you arent on the freeway. So, if I had to describe what Guillemots sound like, I would say they sound like a day in Florida with perfect weather.
I featured Guillemots on Episode One of our show, which should be another indication of what a die-hard fan I am. The song I featured was Made Up Love Song #43 off of the From The Cliffs EP. Another incredible song off of this EP is Who Left the Lights Off, Baby? From the Through the Windowpane album, you should listen to Trains to Brazil, and Blue Would Still Be Blue.
I dont want you to sound like a fool when you tell all of your friends that you discovered this band all on your own, so be sure to pronounce their name correctly: Gill-uh-motts. And to really prove that you know what you are talking about, tell them that the word guillemots is the plural of the name of a group of seabirds.

You will love Guillemots if you love The Holloways, The Format, and Coldplay.
