In our political process, it is rare to invest so much power in one person, hence the different branches of government.
But just as the president is our supreme leader of the country, the buck stops in Florida at the governor's office.
And Rick Scott's decision to kill the Tampa-to-Orlando high speed rail route has maximum impact, as an untold number of jobs won't be filled, and the dreams and aspirations of many in the Tampa Bay region are at least for now, thwarted.
We wrote up Scott's initial announcement, and several blog posts throughout the day, many of which you can link to via this post.
If it's Thursday, it must be time for another Tampa mayoral debate. And why not? There's only 12 days left to go in the campaign, and every one of them counts for the four men and one woman fighting to become the leader of this city for at least the next four years. There were 3 different forums yesterday - we attended the middle one - held late yesterday afternoon at the Becks Building near The Heights in downtown Tampa, with a spectacular view available in advance for the 20 and 30 somethings who attended the Young Professionals of Tampa forum, and where Bob Buckhorn's campaign shtick seemed to hit a responsive chord last night.
And speaking of the mayoral race, you can read CL Editor David Warner's endorsement in the race (the first time we've done so in a very long time).
And we want to remind those of you who are Tampa voters or are simply interested in the March 1 election that I will be moderating a debate with the 5 candidates for the city wide District 3 race for the Tampa City Council on my WMNF talk show, which airs today (and every Thursday) from 5 to 6 p.m. That's at 88.5 FM on the radio dial in the Tampa Bay Area, or wmnf.org to listen via the Internet.
the report here.
