White plastic bags: Big environmental offenders

Though plastic bags can be convenient when hauling home your loot from the grocery store, they're also quite the environmental nuisance. Billions of plastic bags end up clogging landfills and oceans each year — adversely affecting the environment and marine life — and they're manufactured using oil, so they create CO2 emissions. And on top of all that, it can take hundreds of years for them to degrade.

But the worst offender in the plastic bag realm? The white ones. You see, colored plastic bags can be made with a certain amount of recycled colored bags. But not the white ones. They need to be made almost completely from scratch.
