Do It Today: The Ataris' pop-punk at the Brass Mug and This Providence at Orpheum

Indiana-based pop-punkers The Ataris have seen 15 musicians come and go from their lineup since its inception in 1995. Unsurprisingly, the foursome’s style has progressed from the snapshot-songwriting approach on their Kung Fu Record  debut, …Anywhere But Here, to their most recognizable mainstream single to date, a rhythm-charged cover of “The Boys of Summer” by Don Henley. “All Souls Day” is the latest song released by The Ataris to promote their forthcoming album, The Graveyard of the Atlantic. Fueled By Ramen pop-punk quintet This Providence is composed of thin-voiced guitarist Dan Young, Gavin Phillips on guitar, Phil Cobrea on bass/vox and Ryan Tapert on drums. Over the course of three albums and two EPs, the band has worked their connections to open for labelmates Paramore and Cute Is What We Aim For. A recently recorded session for Daytrotter highlights the band’s contagious emo-pop melodies and hopelessly romantic lyrics.
