As CL and other local media outlets have been reporting in recent weeks, there will be plenty of entertainment coming Tampa's way while the Republican National Convention is underway. Some of these shows will be open to the public and many others will be for Republican eyes only, via an invitation.
The biggest invite-only show is the official welcoming party for delegates and reporters at Tropicana Field on August 26. The Committee on Arrangements announced Tuesday that the event would feature Rodney Atkins, who like many of the previously announced performing artists is a country music star.
Drive-By Truckers out of Georgia are considered alt-country, or perhaps Southern Rock if you had to categorize them. In any event, they were scheduled to perform at a private event in Tampa during the RNC, but that's no longer the case, according to the website jambands.com. which has published a statement by the band's Patterson Hood, who said "certain conditions were not met," thus the group had canceled the private gig.
