Tonight in live music: Michael McDonald & Toto

The co-headliners on this tour have been working together on various projects for more than three decades. Members of LA rock band Toto met the blue-eyed soulful former Doobie Brother via Steely Dan and the DBs, and collaborated with Michael McDonald on his 1982 solo debut, If That's What It Takes; he returned the favor on 1986 Toto album Fahrenheit, adding his distinctive falsetto to “I’ll Be Over You.” Both have their own share of hits. Snowy-haired McDonald charted with the ‘80s-urgent ode to heartache, “I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near),” Running Scared soundtrack hit “Sweet Freedom,” and duets with Patti LaBelle (“On My Own”) and James Ingram (“Yah Mo B There”), while Toto’s catalog peaked with “Africa,” “Hold the Line,” and “Rosanna.” The latter just issued a new DVD/Blu-Ray release, 35th Anniversary Tour – Live In Poland, and is recording material for a brand new LP due out sometime in 2015. 7:30 p.m., Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater, $45-$95.
