On the Radar: Wayne Brady and Neil Hamburger

Two comedians with completely diverse styles hit the mics this weekend.

Wayne Brady started out flexing his improv skills on Drew Carey’s Whose Line Is It Anyway?, was made over into a squeaky clean talk show star for the Emmy-winning Wayne Brady Show, then spent the next few years separating himself from his G-rated image, most notably with an unforgettable appearance on Chapelle’s Show. (“Does Wayne Brady have to choke a bitch?”)

See Brady perform his stand-up 9 p.m. Fri.-Sat., Feb. 25-26, The Club at Treasure Island; $65 (a portion to benefit All Children’s Hospital).

The crass, greasy-haired persona of outsider comedian and musician Gregg Turkington, a.k.a. Neil Hamburger, has, amidst much hacking and throat-clearing, delivered self-hating anti-humor along with plenty of question-and-answer jokes (“What does a plate of asparagus risotto have in common with sex and Robin Williams? Both of them make a woman’s urine smell peculiar.”) His stand-up is definitely an acquired taste. Opening the Thx Mgmt show are JP Inc., Steve Miller and Matt Fernandez. Sat., Feb. 26, New World Brewery, Ybor City, $10 (ages 21 and older).   here for video clips of Hamburger and JP Inc.
